A Bit of Wisdom

Written by Martha on April 14th, 2010

Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.

Martin Luther

Two thoughts spring from this quote for me:

  1. Unless the world is completely destroyed, that tree will continue to grow and bear witness to God’s commitment to bring rain in season. (Genesis 8:21-22) How many apple trees were planted across our nation by John Chapman (aka Johnnie Appleseed) who planted in faith and left the rest to God?
  2. No matter what another person or even the entire world decides, I can only control my actions, my responses. The tree is my gift of beauty and bounty for me and for others.
